There has been an extensive study about the neurobehavioral disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Researchers have identified as many as 7-9% of the population in the United States have been diagnosed with ADHD (Center for Disease Control, 2010). The most effective treatment approach has been identified as medication, psychotherapy, and coaching. Researchers have also noted there is a disparity between African Americans with ADHD and Whites with ADHD (Snowden, 2012). This class will discuss the historical and cultural experiences of African Americans in the United States. Participants will increase their awareness of the daily cultural experience. Participants will be able to develop positive tools and resources that are culturally sensitive to African Americans.
