This is an introduction to the philosophy, principles, processes, and applications of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) as developed by its founder, Marshall Rosenberg.

  • We will explore and practice the 4 (four) steps that form the basis of NVC as a communication model based on compassionate listening and expressing: Observations, Feelings, Needs, and Requests.
  • We will also explore the difference between needs and strategies, how to work effectively and compassionately with difficult emotions, such as anger and shame.
  • This course will offer practical tools that can be applied with oneself, in interpersonal relationships, group dynamics, and in supporting the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
