• Do you ever work with clients who worry about what their things will think or feel if they discard them? Or when they lose an object, does their reaction seem comparable to a death? These experiences might be what clinicians and researchers call anthropomorphizing: the tendency to see human characteristics or mental states in non-human objects.
  • Researchers are now looking more closely at why people with Hoarding Disorder or collecting behaviors tend to anthropomorphize. This presentation will include what anthropomorphizing looks like, why we do it, and how we can respond as a helper.
