The new science of character strengths and positive psychology that has emerged in the last 20 years has uncovered 24 universally valued (cross-cultural) character strengths. This includes strengths such as bravery, curiosity, social intelligence, fairness, self-regulation, hope, gratitude, and creativity. This is known as the VIA Classification of character strengths.

Research from over 700 studies in the last decade has found that these character strengths are key ingredients of a life well-lived and are connected with a variety of positive outcomes. The benefits of these character strengths range from greater meaning in life, happiness, and better relationships to the management of stress, problems, and life adversities.

Many people will think –“I am a strengths-based person” or they will say, “I practice with my strengths,” but what does this really mean?

This presentation takes “strengths-based” to the next level. It will delve into key concepts, innovative research, and practical activities with character strengths. You will have the opportunity to engage in breakout groups and an experiential activity. You will walk away with essential tools you can begin using yourself and can share with others right away!
